Jan Sangharsha Parishat convener Girish Acharya has alleged large-scale illegal sand mining in the Sharavathi backwater regions of Hosanagara taluk and filed a complaint with the Lokayukta. He warned that a hunger strike protest will be held in front of the Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner’s office if authorities fail to stop the illegal activities within three days.
